The Eagles Ethos

Our football philosophy

About our community club

Our background

Formed in 1979, Canterbury Eagles is the city’s longest established football club for young people. Today, we provide footballing opportunities in a supportive, friendly environment across all ages, genders and abilities. Our aim is to help progress our players’ football ability, their health and wellbeing and their social development. We’re very proud of our FA Charter Standard accreditation, which reflects the fact that we offer a high quality experience, prioritising qualified coaching, safeguarding and the values of The FA’s Respect programme

Creating the right environment

Canterbury Eagles’ commitment to you is that we will, through patient and supportive coaching, help develop every player’s interest in football, their footballing skills, their general health and wellbeing and their social development. Our committee members and volunteers will work tirelessly to give all players that experience and achieve those outcomes. Our emphasis is on enjoyment. While the football may get increasingly competitive as players move up through the age groups, we want every member of Canterbury Eagles to be having fun and playing in a supportive environment. And it is our hope that as young people progress through the age groups, they will become role models for the younger players, embodying and reinforcing the positive philosophy they have experienced and benefitted from themselves. Many of our players go on to coach and referee the age groups that follow. In summary, through training and matches we aim to provide:

  • FUN

  • Quality, age and ability appropriate coaching in line with FA guidelines to support player development in the long term

  • Structured, competitive football appropriate to all ability levels played in a safe and friendly environment.

  • A challenging, supportive learning environment

  • An expectation of good behaviour and respect for others

  • Encouragement that players try their best and make the most of their abilities
