Pitch Perfect Presentation

Three cheers to Dan Porter and Tony Payne for hosting (and planning) their first presentation event as co-chairs of Canterbury Eagles. Thank you both for all your work throughout the season, and for organising such a wonderful (and sun-filled) evening.

Presentation is the one time of the year when we get to enjoy a whole club get together and a few hours of guaranteed celebration and fun.

With the score line taking a back seat for once, it was lovely to see a mix of ages playing a mass football match on the lush lower field at host venue St Stephen’s Primary, as they waited for team trophies to be awarded.

As is tradition, every footballing Eagle was recognised for their contribution to the 2022/23 season, with some special mentions for each team’s goal of the season, players’ & supporters’ player, most improved, and ‘Safe Hands’ trophy for our keeper collective.

The team presentations were rounded off by our u14 Saturday team who held aloft the Faversham and District Youth League Plate Cup they won back in March, to cheers all round.

Mason the Magnificent

Then there was the big one; Eagles’ most coveted award – The Founder’s Trophy. And the Canterbury Eagle who received this year’s cup is the indisputably inspirational, Vicky Mason. Now, until a few years ago Vicky had not so much as kicked a football; these days she’s not only a key member of Canterbury Old Bags, but she’s also been her son’s team manager for two seasons and, by all accounts, is doing a fantastic job.

Congrats, and huge thanks to Vicky for her dedication to her new-found vocation!

Thanks to all our volunteers

There are some tricky volunteer posts within our club that receive few plaudits, so we’d like to highlight these people today – our fixture secretaries, Jonny, Sophie, and Sherene. This trio do the work, week in, week out, to ensure your children have matches to play and teams to play against! And then there’s our welfare officers, Alis and Hannah, they’re there, pretty much 24/7 to safeguard our operation and make sure all is well, all of the time.

Please remember, this club runs purely because of our volunteer contingent, and we thank you all!

Yo! Street, burgers and ice cream to boot!

Our friends from YO! Street came along once again to entertain us with their silky skills and magic moves, and this year we welcomed Burger Babes into the fray to keep us fed and watered with their gorgeous grub. There was also ‘massive football darts’ to play, and of course, an ice cream van too!

We banked £50 from our cut of the burger sales, and a massive £700 from the raffle – all funds raised go back into the club.

Thanks to all – have an amazing summer break and we’ll see you soon for 2023/24.
